Who we are

Grant & Brown is a specialist independent geotechnical engineering consultancy for the construction industry. We provide geotechnical design and advice for temporary and permanent works, as well as expert services for claims / dispute resolution.

Richard has over 25 years experience in Geotechnical Engineering, a PhD and is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers. Before becoming independent in 2012, he was a Technical Director for major engineering consultancies. Richard has extensive expertise and has been responsible for the geotechnical aspects of numerous wide-ranging and challenging projects, as well as experience directing multi-disciplinary design teams.

Mark has worked in the profession for 20 years and is a Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers. He has considerable experience as the geotechnical lead in multi-disciplinary teams, interfacing with other professionals to ensure fully co-ordinated designs. Mark is highly skilled in analytical geotechnical techniques including numerical analyses (Finite Element Analysis-FEA) to model soil-structure interaction.

We provide the full range of geotechnical design and consulting services for both temporary and permanent works. Our projects include buildings, bridges, basements and deep excavations, cut and cover tunnels and other civil engineering structures.

We add value at any project stage and have particular experience in the Design and Construct (D&C) sector.

Consultants

We work with consultants and specialist civil/structural engineering firms to broaden their technical capability, provide external independent design review and independent checking services, or simply to provide flexible resources.

Contractors

We work with contractors and their other consultants during all stages of project delivery from tender-support services, optioneering and development of value engineering alternatives, through to detailed permanent and temporary works design and on-site construction support.

Dispute resolution

Richard and Mark have both spent extended periods working on expert / dispute resolution commissions relating to claims. We work closely with legal advisers, clients and commercial teams to achieve the required objectives.

Grant & Brown recently advised us in assessing embankment settlement and associated ground treatment extent for a tender. Their value engineering input provided direction to the permanent works, resulting in a cost-effective solution and contributing to our successful project win.
